“A new beginning for me!” on the ThinkBuzan Licensed Instructor Course

No Comments Chris Griffiths, Tony Buzan, Training

Kick starting the New Year, we held our latest ThinkBuzan Licensed Instructor Course at the Hotel du Vin in Henley, UK. With a diverse group of new recruits in attendance, they were eager to explore their creativity, bounce ideas off one another and get to grips with the iMindMap software.

ThinkBuzan Licensed Instructor Course in Henley

Over the 4 day period, attendees from across the world learnt everything there is to know about Mind Mapping. Thanks to the GRASP solution system, Mind Mapping techniques and the iMindMap software tool, our recruits were able to take a new approach to a wide variety of tasks. Stimulating exercises and a concise step-by-step approach gave everyone the opportunity to harness their creativity, enhance mental performance and identify how they could use creative thinking techniques in their daily lives.

A Fresh New Approach to the New Year

No Comments Chris Griffiths, Training, iMindMap

New Year’s Resolutions

As the New Year approaches, the mental list of New Year’s resolutions starts to form; usually a lengthy list with the aim of dispelling annoying personal habits, or reaching professional goals – and always with a few of the usual suspects making a repeat performance from the year before.

Many New Year’s resolutions emanate from the downfalls, disasters and misjudgements of the previous year, as a last-ditch attempt to avoid repetition in the New Year. We think that by avoiding the same failures, we might somehow pave a path to a more positive outcome at the end of the next year.

CEO of ThinkBuzan and co-author of Mind Maps for Business, Chris Griffiths, argues that this reactive mode of thinking simply doesn’t cut it in the modern world. “What worked in the past no longer fits the bill so we’re being forced to ‘up our game’”.

Rather than simply avoiding making the same mistakes again, we need to be more creative and more innovative. We need to look forwards, for new opportunities and anticipating future bumps in the road. In other words, we need to be proactive.

The ThinkSmart Workshop

1 Comment Tony Buzan, Training, iMindMap

We ran a ThinkSmart Workshop last week, a free event for children from the local area.  18 youngsters ranging from the age of 2 to 17, plus a handful of eager parents, descended on the ThinkBuzan headquarters for an afternoon of brain-boosting sessions and activities.

The ThinkSmart Workshop

Covering creativity, learning skills, whole brain thinking and memory, we really put the kids through their paces.  Sessions were held by our resident ThinkBuzan experts, including two from CEO Chris Griffiths, and Tony Buzan finishing off the day with an energetic introduction to memory skills that even got the parents on their feet shouting the answers.

The ThinkSmart Workshop

The children made some fantastic Mind Maps on their summer holiday plans, impressing us all with their creative flare and quick uptake!

“They created some of the most beautiful first Mind Maps I have ever seen.”  Tony Buzan

A lively bunch, a special mention must be made for the enthusiasm and quick wits of one young participant, Ryan.  With his hand up and waving for every question, Ryan had to be held back to allow some of the other children to share their answers. When the rest of us were scratching our heads or counting up on on our fingers and toes, Ryan was shouting out the answers within milliseconds. It seemed we had a mathematical wizard in our midst and he was a pleasure to teach, as were they all.

A great day was had by all and everyone came away with lots of new ideas and skills, including how and when to Mind Map, all about whole brain thinking, how to use the iMindMap software, how to remember the planets of our solar system – in reverse order, and how to make a piece of paper super aerodynamic! We look forward to seeing what they do next, especially our man Ryan!

ThinkBuzan Training On a Roll

1 Comment Tony Buzan, Training

The last two months have been bustling on the training front at ThinkBuzan.  As we grow our training portfolio and activity, we are creating more and more mental literacy champions across the globe.  The calibur of delegates at the TLI (ThinkBuzan Licensed Instructor) courses couldn’t be more impressive and we know they will be invaluable partners in our mission to get the world thinking better.

TLI Orlando

Our ThinkBuzan Licensed Instructor Pathway in Orlando last month was a phenomenal success.  The group ranged from UN advisors to US Navy Admirals, from Budapest to Milwaukee.  Intelligent, creative, quick off the mark and one of the warmest groups of people we have ever worked with.

Not walking but swaggering – The TLI Dubai

3 Comments Training

The Burj Khalifa
Another successful ThinkBuzan Licensed Instructor Pathway (TLI) came to an end last week; the second to be held on the sunny shores of Dubai.   Tony Buzan joined the group to teach a dynamic afternoon session and join the TLI group for dinner, having flown in from a month-long retreat in Kenya working on new books (more on that to come when Tony shares his travel stories….).    We thought we would share some visual highlights and feedback from our new TLIs.

“Learning about the brain from Tony Buzan and Chris Griffiths and team!  Does it get better than this?”

Dharmendra Rai, Training Consultant, India

The TLI courses have gone from strength to strength, with the feedback from this latest one showing a 97% average rating for Content, Course Leaders and Facilities, from the attendees.

ThinkBuzan CEO Chris Griffiths & Gordon Smith

“A well constructed course presented with enthusiasm.”

Gordon Smith, Training Consultant, South Africa

The TLI dinner cruise on the Bateaux Dubai was an excellent opportunity for the course leaders and attendees to swap stories and take in stunning, panoramic views of the city at night.  Tony was also present to contribute his own experiences and find out more about the new additions to the global ThinkBuzan family.

“Looking forward to putting it all into practise.  Very inspiring and insightful.”

The Dubai TLIs were an incredibly creative and intelligent group and we can’t wait to see what they do next.  Our ThinkBuzan family is expanding rapidly and with the next course in Florida just around the corner, these are exciting times.

The London ThinkBuzan Licensed Instructor Course

No Comments Training

Last week saw the first ThinkBuzan Licensed Instructor (TLI) course to be held in London.  Gracing the elegant streets of Mayfair, the sold out course took place over 4 days at the Hilton on Park Lane Hotel.  Doubling up as the debut of iMindMap 5, a heady mixture of nerves and excitement could be felt at ThinkBuzan in the days running up to the course!

We had an excellent mix of attendees in London, with some from educational and lecturing backgrounds, civil engineering, business, tourism and even a representative from Sony.  The dynamic group gave colour and meaning to the theory being taught by offering insights and examples from their own professions.

When asked to provide feedback on the course across all areas, from content and course leaders, to the venue facilities, the response was enthusiastically positive with an average rating of 96%!

Tony Buzan opening the London TLI

“I think the impact of those four days will stay with us all and transform how we work in the future.  It was a real pleasure to meet you and having the opportunity to work alongside like-minded people was a breath of fresh air.”

Sue Baker, Gifted and Talented Coordinator

The TLI covered a breadth of topics over the 4 days, from Chris Griffiths on the impact of technology on thinking, to generating great ideas.  Tony got the course off to a characteristically rousing start on the first morning, introducing Mind Mapping, creativity and the brain’s potential.  The group were also given the chance to ask Tony any questions they had in a lively Q & A session.

ThinkBuzan's Emily and Owen with Oriol Marimón-Clos

“Excellent personable team – demonstrated a depth of knowledge.  Thank you very much for all your teaching, support and humour.”

Fiona Stephen, Nutrition Consultant

An internationally renowned speaker, Tony spends the majority of his time globe trotting – so we were very lucky to pin him down long enough to open the TLI course in London and let the new class of TLIs learn from the master.  He will also be attending the TLI in Dubai next month, for any of you attending the next course, fresh from a month in Kenya working on his new books.

Tony Buzan with Philippe Packu from Sony

“What I learned from Tony, Chris, Emily and Owen, and in fact everyone else, has formed a very inspirational, positive place in my developing mind.  I look forward to drawing on that resource, on that seed of wisdom, and nurturing it.”

Carl Peters, English-Trainer.com

The TLI group had the advantage of being the first ever to get trained and accredited on iMindMap 5.  Whilst still in its Beta stage, the group got to really explore the software and loved the new features – particularly 3D View and SmartLayout.

We also had guest speakers as a special treat for London.  Henry Toi, from Buzan Centres Asia, gave a talk on Mind Mapping within Education, and Simon Pearson from Puzzlebox Potential generously shared his own story and experiences of Mind Mapping.

Tony and Chris with Simon and Nick from Puzzlebox

“TLI was a wonderful week and a life changing experience.”

Simon Pearson, Puzzlebox Potential

A truly interactive experience, the TLI course gets the group contributing and applying the skills learnt throughout – and this doesn’t just apply to mental challenges…

Mohammed and Fiona juggling

“The TLI course is not only learning and meeting fantastic people. It’s also fun!”

Oriol Marimón-Clos, co-founder of 3 Day Startups

Our newly graduated class of ThinkBuzan Licensed Instructors are eager and motivated to get back to their varied careers and applying the knowledge and skills they have acquired to transform the way they and their colleagues work.  As Sue baker said, it ‘gave me so many ideas to develop’.

As accredited trainers they can also now run their own courses on applied innovation and iMindMap 5.  This will definitely not be the last you here from our new TLIs who have an exciting arsenal of plans about to be put in motion.  From transforming the face of education in Britain and Oman, to building communication networks in Africa, the ambitions of a ThinkBuzan Licensed Instructor may be varied but share a drive to change and innovate.

The Hilton from Hyde Park

“I would like to thank you all for a unique experience in terms of learning and understanding the TLI mission.”

Nisha Sood, Education in Oman

We would like to thank the new TLIs for being one of the most dynamic and inspiring groups that we have worked with and we look forward to a rewarding relationship with them going forward.

If you would like to see more photos from the TLI in London, you can find them on Flickr.
